Product Info:
This WW2 poster is 16” wide x 11” high (40.5cm x 28cm) and printed on FSC Mix Essential Silk 200gsm paper.
Simon’s detailed pencil drawing has been re-produced as a high-quality military art poster depicting a scene from The Battle for Pointe du Hoc - a pivotal assault which occurred during the invasion of Normandy - from the perspective of a crack unit from the 2nd Ranger Battalion.
Historical Context:
On the morning of D-Day 6 June 1944, the US 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions scaled the 100-foot cliffs at Pointe du Hoc, as part of the Normandy landings, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James Rudder. Their objective was to neutralize the heavily fortified German artillery positions threatening the success of the D-Day invasion. Though they faced intense enemy fire, barbed wire obstacles, and heavily mined terrain, they eventually managed to disable the guns through a combination of exceptional bravery and determination.
